Neer Dose | Rice Dose

Neer Dose is a famous South Canara dish & it is prepared using raw rice & coconut. We call it as Neer (water) dose since the batter consistency is like water.

Neer Dose
  1. Wash and soak raw (dose) rice for 4 hours.
  2. Grind soaked raw rice & grated coconut with water to smooth paste. Remove from the grinding jar to a big bowl.
  3. Add required water and make the batter consistency to thin like water (1 cup rice = approx. 2 to 2.5 cup water).
  4. Add required salt and mix it well.
  5. Heat a dose griddle & drizzle few drops of oil. Using kitchen tissue wipe off the excess oil from griddle.
  6. When griddle is hot enough, take ladle full of batter spill little by little on the griddle. Tilt the griddle to spread the batter evenly.
  7. Cover it and cook for 1 minute. Now remove the cover and take out the dose and keep it aside in a plate.
  8. Each time, you need to mix the batter just before pouring on the griddle since the consistency is thin, the rice part goes down.
  9. Serve with chutney or Jaggery coconut.
